1. Eat Out

All children love pasta and pizza, so a trip to a family-friendly Italian restaurant is a guaranteed hit. Try Giovanni’s at Park Place, Cardiff, for an authentic, memorable occasion.

2. Soft Play

Often the stuff of nightmares for parents because of the noise, a soft play centre is a guaranteed hit with young children, so consider grinning and bearing it, particularly if the weather is bad. Consider Jump Trampoline in Llanishen if you have slightly older children with you, because aside from the inflatables and toddler zones, there are some great climbing frames and indoor football pitches. Make a day of it with a meal at the onsite cafe.

3. Garden Centre

Not just for gardeners, there are often aquatics or pet sections that children love. Pugh’s in Morganstown is a great example, and the Christmas light displays are great!

4. Science

Techniquest is a wonderful science centre in Cardiff with great hands-on exhibits for everyone. Exhibitions change regularly, so you can see new things each time you visit.

5. Clybiau Plant Cymru

Get your children out and about during school holidays on one of more than 450 holiday clubs. Help them learn new skills and develop their physical and emotional capacities. There are four sites across south Wales.

6. Eden Centre

There is so much going on at this award-winning play centre in Aberbeeg. Choose from bowling Lego workshops, or lots more.

7. Llancaiach Fawr Manor

History buffs will love these tours from guides in authentic costumes from the Civil War time, speaking period English. There’s also an art gallery on site at Nelson.

8. Village Hotel

The Village, Cardiff, is a fun option for delicious food and entertainment for all the family, whether live music or sport on the big screen. And free ice-cream for children!

If you live in England one of the best ways to get to South Wales is to use a Coach Hire Gloucester firm like https://www.johndixtravel.co.uk/ as it is only over the border and it is just a quick hop over one of the Severn crossings or through the picturesque Forest of Dean and Monmouth.

It’s a great place for open spaces so the kids can run loose. If you’d like to know more about the benefits of exercise and activity for children, see the Parents website.

Check the weather forecast, dress appropriately and get out for some fun!
