The importance of school safeguarding

Schools are not only places of learning for our children and young people, but they are places where they should feel safe in their surroundings, with responsible adults around to look after them. In order to ensure that this remains the case there are a number of ways in which schools help to safeguard their communities.

DBS checks are the most common ways that schools and other educational establishments ensure that all those people who are working in education, regardless of their role, and also any people who may be volunteering are suitable for the positions they are undertaking. These checks are undertaken through a number of agencies, and they involve the criminal records of the individual being checked to ensure that the person does not have any criminal convictions that would prevent them from being a safe choice to work with children and young people.

Other pieces of software such as the KYC software that is available from https://www.w2globaldata.com/regulatory-compliance-solutions-and-software/know-your-customer allow companies to undertake identity checks. These may be basic or more in-depth checks that cover legal right to work in the UK and to ensure that a person is in fact who they say they are.

Educational settings have strict safeguarding policies that will be checked and updated on a regular basis and each school and educational company will also have designated members of staff that will be responsible for dealing with any safeguarding concerns that are raised within the school.
