Getting out and about for a walk

Once this current situation is over there will be nothing like getting out and about and going for a good old wander around the British and Irish Countryside. Not only will it help us to all get back into shape it will assist with the local hospitality and tourist trade as well. There is nothing like a good cup of tea (or something stronger) and a nice slice of cake at the end of a walk or even halfway round.

You’ll need to have some basic bits of kit to get you going. Here is a quick list of things that you will need if you are going to go on a good proper hike and walk and make the whole thing a lot easier.

  1. A good day/backpack. Load it up with health snacks and drinks and you’ll be fine for that refuel and pit stop. It’s also useful for holding the next item.
  2. A decent packable jacket or waterproof. Given how unpredictable the weather is in the UK and Ireland it’s very wise to have something that you can pop on and off again at a moment’s notice.
  3. Footwear. This can’t be stressed enough. Trainers are useless on a long walk and will soon give you blisters. You need a pair of stout boots or walking shoes before you venture out. Underneath that you’ll need some Hiking Socks Ireland, England, Wales or Scotland wherever you choose to go.
  4. Map or GPS. If you are the really adventurous type and trek across the Grampians or the Islands of the Hebrides take you fancy then it’s a good idea to know exactly where you are and where you are trying to get to.
